Sawdust Festival Magazine Ad
This project was to create a magazine ad for the "Sawdust Art Festival" located in Laguna Beach, CA, using InDesign. I decided to go with a Laguna Beach sunset background and a compelling image of a sun. Placed inside of the sun is a photo I found of a painted van, which reads "Sawdust Art Festival." I feel the van incorporates the website's colors as well as an artistic feel, completing the theme of the ad's purpose. Additionally, I felt the white text contrasted with the purple background, increased readability and gave the ad a clean look.
The goal of my design was to attract people to come to the festival via the appealing sun image as a snapshot of art as well as the desire to support their community. I made my decisions about the text carefully, as I italicized the mission of the organization to emphasize who Sawdust is and how the purpose of the event. Next, I made the title and date both small caps for a cohesive feel. To give the ad a more complete look, I added the thick-thin lines at the top and bottom, at different thicknesses for a balance. Lastly, I kept all the text aligned in the same section yet decided to break it up and bullets to stray away from a heavy-text look, making it easier to read.
